Real Weddings - Annel & Werner Wolmarans

What was the theme / colour scheme for your wedding?

Initially, I wanted an all-white theme, but I love navy! I decided to incorporate the navy in the bridesmaids and the groom. I did not want the groomsmen in navy as well, Werner had to stand out. Since I can remember, I wanted to get married at a venue with lots of glass and an open feel. We almost booked a different venue, but somehow stumbled upon Hopewell. I immediately fell in love! The venue inspired my theme, which in the end, was Natural Elements, but modern, not rustic at all. I added some rose gold, glass and pearl elements and tons of white flowers and greenery. The rest remained white.

Who was your photographer?

The amazing Cherie Theron.

Where did you get married?

We got married at Hopewell Conservation Estate. We set up a bodium tent on the top section next to the pool, where our ceremony was held. The cocktail hour was in the restaurant and the reception in the large venue. Our families stayed over in the houses on the property, and the bridal party stayed in the luxury tents at the Nyosi Camp.

What inspired your dress style?

Something I learned about myself during my wedding planning, is that I am extremely indecisive! I had various styles in mind and tried on about 20 dresses, but nothing that really complimented my body shape. I just didn't get that "ah-ha" feeling like everyone kept saying I would. One Saturday morning at Olivelli, I tried on a boob-tube dress (which I said I would never wear). It was as if the dress was made for me! I have quite small shoulders and an I waistline, and this dress accentuated those features - well in my opinion!

Anything that stands out about your day?

Given that the previous day was super windy, we were blessed with the best weather. The staff at Hopewell were just amazing, and the food was a top topic. I have to say the thing that I mostly remember was the amount of love that you receive on your wedding day. Everyone is there to share in your happiness! Of course, the party was great as well; we emptied the bar! What advice can you give other couples? 1. Wedding planning is hard work and adds unnecessary stress and tension to your relationship with husband/wife to be. Take advantage of all the help offered. These people want to help and want to be included in your big day. Don't try and do it all on your own. 2. Save save save! And if you're going to spend on something, spend on your dress and photographer. Your photos are the only things that you really keep from your wedding. 3. Your wedding day should be about you and the person you love most on this earth. Do not be concerned about what guests will think, as there will always be someone with a different opinion. 4. Take in as much as possible of every second (planning included). It really does go by so fast.
