Where is the Maldives?

In the Indian Ocean, southwest of India and Sri Lanka. The Republic of the Maldives is an archipelago of about 1,190 coral islands southwest of India’s southern tip, some 670 km (416 miles) southwest of Sri Lanka. The islands are strung out in a chain, stretching 822 km (510 miles) from north to south across the Equator, and 130 km (80 miles) at the widest from west to east. Only 200 of them are inhabited with nearly 100 of the uninhabited islands turned into tourist resorts.

The total land area, if all the islands were one landmass, would amount to 298 square kilometres (115 square miles), about half the size of Singapore. In actual fact 99.9% of the Republic is sea. The islands are grouped in 26 natural atolls, ring-like coral formations enclosing a massive central lagoon, which gives the Maldives its distinctive paradise-isles appearance.

Where is Baros Maldives?

The island of Baros Maldives is so easy to reach and yet so far removed from the world. It lies in the central southern part of North Male’ Atoll, 25 minutes by speedboat from the Maldives International Airport and the archipelago’s capital, Male’.

Exploring the underwater life can be experienced throughout the Maldive islands, but Baros Maldives Resort is unique as an underwater destination for several reasons: it has two centres devoted to diving and exploring the sea: The Dive Centre and the separate Marine Centre.

The resort has a stunning house reef full of spectacular marine life just a few strokes from the beach and there are 30 world class dive spots within 50 minutes by boat. At the Dive Centre guests can learn not only scuba diving, but also participate in Eco Diving at the EcoDive Centre, which is the first in the Maldives Islands.

At the separate Marine Centre, guests can borrow snorkelling gear free of charge, join guided snorkelling excursions, obtain information and take part in awareness programmes conducted by the resident Marine Biologist.

Maldives Island Resorts don’t come any better than Baros Maldives!

Guests have several opportunities to experience the essence of the Maldives beyond the resort’s shores. As well as pre-planned excursions for groups, the Guest Experiences Team can design individual excursions by privately-chartered boat. Whatever guests want to do, the Guest Experiences Team will create the perfect memorable experience to make guests’ dreams come true.

This is the Baros Maldives traditional handcrafted Maldivian 19m-long sailing dhoni providing an unusual combination of luxury and adventure. Below deck is a cabin with a lounge area, air-conditioned bedroom and shower; on deck the bow is for sunbathing. The crew wear traditional sarongs and a steward is on board to serve refreshments. Nooma can be chartered for Sunset Sailing, snorkelling and diving around the “Black Coral Reef,” and for a romantic dinner cruise

For a stylish seaborne experience, the exclusive 16m-long Princess Motor Yacht, Serenity, can be chartered for cruising in ultimate luxury. With a private saloon, cabin for two and discreet crew, a cruise on Serenity is a gracious way to discover the attractions of the atoll. Easy-to-arrange cruises include a private sunset cruise to see dolphins and private half-day or full day excursions in the atoll.

Baros Experiences

Baros Maldives experiences include Big Game Fishing and “Fishing by Twilight” with a  “Catch your own dinner” plan. Guests can also learn the traditional Maldivian fishing method using a hand line and especially hand-tied lures on a “Hand Line Trolling at Dawn” experience. And for the perfect way to see corals and fish without getting wet, a cruise by a glass bottom boat that can easily navigate above the reef is possible.

Discovery experiences are arranged with a Half Day Island Discovery Excursion by luxury speedboat to an island resort before visiting a local island, and there is also a Male’ Sightseeing and Shopping excursion to experience the history and culture of the capital. The height of sightseeing is a Seaplane Photoflight to view the splendour of the Maldives and its atolls from the sky. For lovers, and lovers of the wild, the Sunset Dolphin Cruise with Champagne & Canapés is an exciting experience, observing leaping dolphins while enjoying a glass of champagne, canapés, mineral water and soft drinks served on board.

Although Baros Maldives is isolated in the Indian Ocean, fine dining in style is the resort’s hallmark. At Baros Maldives, guests are not limited to standard menus and meal times. There are several culinary experiences to enjoy both on and off shore for a romantic dining interlude.
